Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Purchasing Agent to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials and services essential to our operations. This role requires a strong understanding of supply chain management, inventory control, and procurement processes. The Purchasing Agent will play a critical role in ensuring timely delivery of quality supplies while optimizing costs and maintaining supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with company goals, ensuring timely procurement of goods and services.
  • Utilize appropriate systems to manage purchase orders, track inventory levels, and monitor supplier performance.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, delivery terms, and service agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms while maintaining quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales, logistics, and supply chain management to forecast needs and coordinate procurement activities.
  • Manage supplier relationships by evaluating performance, resolving issues promptly, and identifying opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchase transactions, contracts, and inventory control data; ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Monitor market trends and conduct sourcing activities for new suppliers or alternative products to optimize supply chain efficiency.
  • Oversee inventory management practices including materials management, inventory control, and replenishment strategies.
  • Support logistics coordination to ensure timely delivery of goods while minimizing disruptions in production or sales channels.
  • Assist in the development of budgets and participate in cost analysis initiatives related to pricing strategies.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Agent or Buyer within a retail environment; familiarity with procurement processes across diverse industries.
  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems and experience with materials management modules preferred.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management principles including inventory management, logistics, and sourcing strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation skills coupled with the ability to build long-term supplier relationships.
  • Familiarity with contract management practices and procurement regulations.
  • Ability to analyze market conditions and develop effective sourcing solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail; capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments and negotiating with suppliers.
